Though all of the front-runners have (of course) scoffed off the $16,000 recommended pay raise for the city mayor, they'll be able to put their money where their mouth is (so to speak) after October 25.
Outgoing Mayor David Miller's request to put off the report until the next committee meeting, which will be after the municipal election, was approved today. That means the next council and mayor will be able to decide his/her annual salary for the next four years.
The Hay Group report, which cost City Hall $50,000 to commission, recommended the mayor's salary increased from $167,769 to $183,604. Thomson and Pantalone said they would freeze the mayor's salary, Rossi said he'd take a 10 per cent cut, Ford said he'd cut the mayor's office budget by 20 per cent and Smitherman notably said, "The jackasses who voted to commission this report in the first place should pay for the cost of the report or have it taken out of their hides."
We'll see what actually happens.
